Appareantly, this ‘try’ may damage the partition on the drive, and I may have to format it. WD employee (K.W.) has informed me that my drive doesn’t support daisy-chain, but said I could try. I can disconnect the drvie safely after dragging its icon into the trash can. I can connect the drive safely when the computer is on. I can connect or disconnect the drive safely when the computer is off.
Unfortunately, I’m not happy with the answer(s).
I must say I’m impressed with the fast response(s). IWhen I posted this message, I had also sent an e-mail to Western Digital for assistance.
